Psalm 1 draws a contrast between the "blessed" and the "wicked." The blessed person is the one who delights in God's Word, which brings happiness, stability, and guidance. To experience this blessing, we must learn to meditate regularly on scripture.

In Psalm 22, David predicts with remarkable detail the suffering and death of Jesus 1000 years before he was crucified. We also see predicted the global impact of his death and that it would cause people from all the ends of the earth to turn to the Lord.\r\n

This Psalm of David reveals how God cares for us the way a shepherd cares for his sheep, providing help, direction, provisions, and purpose. Later in the Old Testament, God promises to rescue His flock, a promise ultimately fulfilled in Jesus, who called himself the Good Shepherd.

The Psalmist, David, writes of the sovereignty of God over the nations and all affairs of men, all the while creating people as free moral agents. God's sovereignty means that He knows everything that will happen and either allows or causes it. This does not imply determinism or fatalism, but rather that God's sovereignty is so great that He causes His plans to prosper in spite of human free will and nothing can thwart them. This includes His plan to send his son Jesus to reconcile the world to Himself, which is predicted in this psalm.

The psalmist demonstrates how we can come to God and rest, the way a child rests in its mother's arms. Elsewhere in the Bible, we read that God wants to be our perfect heavenly father. These images show the deep care God has for His children and the tender, intimate relationship we can have when we spend time with Him.
