Melchizedek and the War of the Kings

Abraham engages in warfare to rescue his nephew lot, then meets and is blessed by a priest, Melchizedek, king of Salem. From this story we see a foreshadowing of Jesus who would be a king-priest in the order of Melchizedek, our intermediary and final sacrifice. We also learn from Abraham that growing faith is active, will be tested, and has impact far beyond our lives.

The Woman at the Well

A New and Better Covenant

Hebrews 9:1-15

The author of Hebrews explains how Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of the Old Testament temple and sacrificial system, the final sacrifice that actually took away sin. This new covenant means that Jews no longer needed to follow the old system, which was only a picture of what was to come. People today are also made right with God through Christ's blood alone and do not need to follow laws, perform rituals, or do good works to be made right with God.

The Humanity of Christ

The author of Hebrews addresses questions of both Hebraic and Hellenistic Jews as to who exactly Jesus is. He argues that Jesus is both God and man, which made it possible for him to die for us, and also means that he understands our human experience. Because of the great value Jesus places on us, we can live without fear of death, knowing that we are loved, valued, and important.

The Bible and Prophecy

At first glance, Jesus' claims about himself are audacious, claiming to be able to forgive sins, raise from the dead, and be the only true path to God. But his claims are backed up by the unique, specific prophecies that predated his arrival on earth that he fulfilled. Through these prophecies and their fulfillment in Jesus, we see God is not silent and is, in fact, pursuing us to have a relationship.

Jesus a New and Better High Priest

The Resurrection

The resurrection is crucial to our faith in Jesus Christ. If Jesus wasn't resurrected, the New Testament authors lied and Jesus' death has no meaning. However if Jesus did raise from the dead, we can be assured that: the supernatural is real, there is an afterlife, Jesus' teachings are from God, and Jesus' death did pay for our sins. A review of the historical evidence including eyewitness accounts and extra-Biblical historical sources is included. Alternate explanations are explored and dismissed.
